On a recent cold and snowy day in Asheville, my friend Tison and headed south to the Bald in hopes that the Rumbling Bald Effect was in full force, We crested the Eastern continental divide to behold beautiful sunny conditions down in the Gorge. We decided to head out to the Hanging Chain Boulders, which are fond under the Hanging Chain Wall at Rumbling Bald. This is a seldom visited cluster of boulders that has a number of classic lines. I first visited this area during the 2008-2009 winter with my good friend Richard Burnett. Rich and I put up 20 or so first ascents around the area of the best looking lines we saw. We wandered around many hours, looked at many boulders, but only found a handfull of classic problems. This is a great addition to the bouldering at the Bald, but is certainly not another West or East Side. The video showcases a number of the classic llines found at the Chain boulders. Rich and I did the first ascents of all of the problems shown except for the last problem. Enjoy the video and go explore around the Hanging chain boulders!
